Intellectual Property Policy

The International Journal of Counseling and Applied Psychology (IJCAP) is committed to protecting the intellectual property rights of authors while ensuring wide dissemination of scholarly knowledge. This policy outlines the ownership, licensing, and permissible uses of published content.

1. Copyright Ownership

  • Authors retain the copyright of their manuscripts published in IJCAP.
  • By submitting to IJCAP, authors grant the publisher a non-exclusive license to publish, distribute, and archive the work in any format (print, digital, or electronic).
  • Authors may reuse, reproduce, and distribute their own work without restrictions, provided that proper acknowledgment of the original publication in IJCAP is given.

2. Licensing

  • All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
  • This license permits anyone to:
    • Share — copy and redistribute the work in any medium or format.
    • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the work for any purpose, including commercial use.
  • Under the condition of Attribution — appropriate credit must be given to the original author(s) and the journal, with a link to the license, and an indication of any changes made.

3. Author Rights

Authors are free to:

  • Archive pre-prints, post-prints, and the final published version in institutional repositories, national archives, or academic networks.
  • Reuse their work for academic purposes (teaching, presentations, books, book chapters, dissertations, etc.).
  • Distribute copies of their articles in any format, provided the source (IJCAP) is properly cited.

4. Publisher Rights

The publisher (DnA Horizon Press) reserves the right to:

  • Maintain and disseminate the article in digital archives, indexing databases, and repositories.
  • Preserve metadata and assign Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to ensure persistent linking and citation.
  • Protect the integrity of the published version of record (VoR).

5. Intellectual Property Violations

ICJAP prohibits the following:

  • Plagiarism — copying or reproducing content without proper citation.
  • Unauthorized commercial exploitation of published content.
  • Misrepresentation of the published version or modification of the article without proper acknowledgment.
  • Copyright infringement of third-party materials (e.g., figures, tables, images) without obtaining permission.

Authors must secure written permission for the use of any third-party copyrighted materials included in their manuscripts.

6. Enforcement and Dispute Resolution

  • Any violation of intellectual property rights will be investigated according to COPE guidelines and may result in retraction, legal action, or blacklisting of authors.
  • Disputes regarding ownership, usage rights, or licensing will be resolved by the Editor-in-Chief in consultation with the publisher and, if necessary, external legal/academic authorities.

7. Compliance with International Standards

This Intellectual Property Policy complies with:

  • The Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI)
  • The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) requirements
  • Creative Commons (CC BY 4.0) licensing standards
  • COPE recommendations on publication ethics and copyright management
