Archiving Policy
The International Journal of Counseling and Applied Psychology (IJCAP) is committed to ensuring the long-term digital preservation, accessibility, and integrity of all published scholarly content. The journal recognizes the importance of safeguarding the scholarly record for future generations and adheres to international standards in digital preservation.
1. Digital Preservation Systems
To guarantee permanent access to its content, IJCAP implements multiple archiving strategies:
- Internet Archive Scholar – all published articles are deposited for permanent public access.
- LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) – the journal content is preserved within a distributed archiving system among participating libraries.
- CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) – a global archive that ensures long-term survival of content even in the case of catastrophic events.
- PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) – for OJS-based journals, ensuring decentralized preservation across multiple repositories.
2. Metadata Registration and DOI Preservation
- All published articles are registered with CrossRef and assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for permanent identification and citation.
- Metadata is deposited in globally recognized databases to ensure discoverability, indexing, and linking across platforms.
3. Institutional and Subject Repositories
ICJAP permits and encourages authors to deposit and archive their work in:
- Institutional repositories of universities or research institutions.
- National and international open-access repositories.
- Subject-specific repositories (e.g., PsyArXiv, ERIC, Open Science Framework).
- Personal academic websites or scholarly networks (e.g., ResearchGate, Academia.edu) with proper citation of the original source.
4. Self-Archiving Policy (Green Open Access)
- Authors are allowed to archive all versions of their work:
- Pre-print (submitted version before peer review).
- Post-print (accepted version after peer review).
- Publisher’s version/PDF (final published article).
- There is no embargo period for self-archiving.
- Proper citation to the published article (with DOI and link to the journal website) must always be included.
5. Backup and Redundancy
To ensure content security, IJCAP maintains:
- Multiple server backups stored in geographically distinct locations.
- Secure cloud storage and institutional backup systems.
- Redundant copies of all digital files to prevent data loss.
6. Data Integrity and Accessibility
- All articles are published in widely accessible formats (PDF, XML, HTML) to ensure readability across platforms and over time.
- The journal complies with OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting), allowing metadata harvesting and interoperability with global indexing services.
- Preservation checks are conducted periodically to verify the integrity and accessibility of digital content.
7. Compliance with International Standards
This archiving policy complies with:
- Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) requirements.
- COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) recommendations for maintaining the scholarly record.
